Angie Dahlen stepped onto the battlefield of addiction as a mother trying to save her son, Devan. While Devan was still alive, Angie met Art Dahlen and began learning a very different approach — one rooted in family involvement, accountability, strategic action, and helping families understand the power they still have to influence change. Together, they worked to guide Devan toward recovery and experienced meaningful periods of sobriety in his final years.

In 2016, Angie lost Devan to an overdose.

Rather than allowing that loss to define the end of her story, it became the foundation of her life’s work. Alongside Art Dahlen, Angie co-founded Battlefield Addiction, a family-first nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching families and communities how to intervene and guide loved ones into full recovery and independence. Today, Angie works directly with families navigating addiction, behavioral struggles, family conflict, and the many challenges young people face today — helping parents identify practical, strategic right moves during some of the hardest seasons of their lives.

Angie also founded Mothers Beyond the Battle (BTB), a community for mothers who have lost a loved one to addiction, helping women find connection, purpose, and healing through shared experience. Known for her warmth, honesty, and deeply personal understanding of what families are facing, Angie brings both lived experience and years of hands-on work supporting families who are exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure what to do next.

Her message to families is simple:
You are not powerless. There are things you can do. And you must.
