Family First Approach

Family First Approach

As Battlefield Addiction founders, Art and Angie, worked more deeply with families, they also noticed that family CONNECTION seemed to be key to a solution.

They observed that when family members become engaged, transformed through self-awareness, and reconnected they could hold each other, and their addict, accountable which brought greater success in treatment acceptance. They also found there was greater success in completing treatment and fewer, shorter lived, relapses. So, Art and Angie began developing a program that centered on fostering connection within families.

By 2016 the “Family First Approach” became their signature strategy to fight addiction.  In their experience, addiction continues when relationships are broken or ineffective, therefore, the role of family and friends cannot be underestimated.

This belief that family involvement is critical is backed up by The National Institute on Drug Addiction. They state that family and friends can play a critical role in the success of treatment and, when significant others get involved and engaging, the benefits of treatment are strengthened and extended(NIDA,2018).
